The cluster sits in the first Parma Apennine hills, with ridges and wooded slopes rising south toward the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano. The Parma and Baganza valleys structure this part of the province, with mixed farmland, woods and small hill settlements. The Parco Regionale delle Valli del Cedra e del Parma begins farther up the Parma valley, with the Boschi di Carrega regional park closer to the north-west near Collecchio. The nearest larger town is Parma, which provides the full set of city services, rail links and a substantial historic centre. The area is known above all for Prosciutto di Parma, with Langhirano at the centre of its production zone and the Torrechiara castle hill area nearby as a local landmark.
