The Ceno river runs through Bardi, and the area is a mountain valley of wooded slopes, pasture and ridgelines rather than plain countryside. Parco Regionale delle Valli del Cedra e del Parma lies to the north-east of this part of the Apennines, but the immediate setting is the upper Ceno valley. Bardi itself is known for its large castle on a red jasper rock above the town. The nearest larger service centre is Borgo Val di Taro, with rail connections, shops and hospitals; Parma is the main city for higher-level services but is much farther away on mountain roads. The area is known for porcini mushrooms and for road access across the Apennine passes toward Liguria.
