The Pescara River runs through this stretch of valley, and the Tirino valley is close by. Majella National Park begins nearby on the mountain side of the valley. The nearest sizeable town is Popoli, with rail links, services and the gorge area at the meeting of the Aterno and Pescara valleys, while Sulmona is the larger historic centre within regional daily reach.
