The area sits in the Pescara valley between the Maiella massif to the southwest and the lower hills that run toward the Adriatic. The Pescara River runs nearby, with mixed farmland, olive groves and low wooded slopes around the settlements. Maiella National Park begins farther inland on the mountain side of the province, but the immediate landscape here is the foothill and valley country outside the park. The nearest larger town is Pescara-Chieti, which provides the main rail links, airport, hospitals and full services for the area. This part of inland Abruzzo is known for olive oil, vineyards and small hill villages along the valleys leading up toward the Apennines.
