The cluster sits in the middle Aterno-Pescara valley below the Maiella massif, with the higher ridges of the Abruzzo Apennines visible nearby. The Pescara River runs through this stretch of valley, and the Tirino valley is close by. Majella National Park begins nearby on the mountain side of the valley. The nearest sizeable town is Popoli, with rail links, services and the gorge area at the meeting of the Aterno and Pescara valleys, while Sulmona is the larger historic centre within regional daily reach. This part of inland Abruzzo is known for abbeys, fortified hill villages and olive-covered slopes set between major mountain groups.
