The Luretta valley and the surrounding ridges are the immediate landscape, with mixed woods, fields and small hill villages. The Ligurian Apennines rise farther south, but the higher mountain scenery is not inside the immediate area. Piacenza is the nearest city of size, with full services, rail connections and a substantial historic centre. This part of the Piacentino is known for vineyard and mixed farm country and for fortified hill villages and castles scattered through the valleys.
