Within about 15 km there are the eroded clay formations of the Parco Regionale dello Stirone e del Piacenziano only farther east, so they do not count for the immediate setting; the local landscape is mainly wooded and cultivated hills with villages on the slopes and the river corridor on the valley floor. Bobbio is the nearest town of note in daily reach, with an abbey, a medieval bridge and a substantial historic centre. The valley is known for the Trebbia and for hill villages and castles in the Piacentine countryside.
