This is the western Po plain just south of Piacenza, with cultivated flat land and the lower Trebbia valley nearby. The Trebbia river is the main natural feature in the area, with gravel banks and riparian strips around the valley floor west of the town. Piacenza is the nearest city of size and has a full range of services, rail connections and a substantial historic centre. The first Apennine hills begin farther south beyond the immediate plain, but they are outside the core 15 km landscape here. The area is known mainly for agriculture and for its position between Piacenza and the lower Val Trebbia.
