The Rimigliano and Gulf of Baratti coast is outside the immediate area, but the nearest daily-service centres are Cecina and Donoratico on the plain, with supermarkets, rail stations and the main road links along the Tyrrhenian corridor. Within the hills around Monteverdi Marittimo the landscape is mainly forest, scrub, small fields and scattered hamlets. The area is known for olive groves, woodland and the geothermal and mining country of the Colline Metallifere farther inland.
