The cluster is in the Carnic Prealps, with steep forested mountains and narrow valleys around Claut. The Cellina torrent runs through the area, and the upper Val Cellina is the main landscape feature within reach. Much of the surrounding territory is inside the Friulian Dolomites Natural Park, whose dolomite peaks and alpine basins lie directly around the village. The nearest ski area is Piancavallo, roughly an hour away by road, so it is not part of the immediate setting. The nearest larger town is Maniago, which has everyday services and an old centre. The area is known for mountain walking, climbing and the traditional mountain villages of Val Cellina.
