The cluster sits at the foot of the Friulian Prealps, with the mountains rising immediately north around the Val Colvera and the approach to the Valcellina area. The Meduna river runs a few kilometres west, and the gorge and reservoirs of the Valcellina are within this radius. Part of the surrounding mountain area falls in the Friulian Dolomites Natural Park, and the Friulian Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage area begins not far to the north-west. The nearest substantial town is Maniago, which has everyday services, an old centre and is known for knife-making. This part of western Friuli is known for its prealpine valleys, stone villages and access to walking and climbing terrain in the foothills.
