The Cellina river runs through the area, and the gorge and reservoirs of the Valcellina are within this landscape; much of the upper valley falls in the Parco Naturale Dolomiti Friulane. Piancavallo, the nearest ski area, is roughly 30 minutes by road. Pordenone is the nearest town of size, with rail services, shops and hospitals. The area is known for the transition from the plain to the prealpine valleys and for outdoor use of the Cellina and Valcellina area.
