The coast of the Gulf of Policastro is within the 15 km radius, with the shore at Maratea and the Tyrrhenian immediately below the inland slopes. Much of the area falls in the Appennino Lucano Val d'Agri Lagonegrese National Park. Maratea is the nearest town of size in daily use on this side, with a rail station, port and services. Maratea is known for its historic center on the mountain above the sea, its indented coast and the Christ the Redeemer statue on Monte San Biagio.
