This part of the valley is known for terraced vineyards on the sunny slope, especially the Valtellina wine landscape around Berbenno, Morbegno and Sondrio. Sondrio is the nearest town of size and has the main services, rail connections and a historic centre. The nearest ski areas are the small lifts at Caspoggio in Valmalenco and the larger Aprica area, both roughly an hour by road depending on the exact hamlet. The area is also known for apple growing and mountain agriculture in the side valleys.
