The Mera river and the wetlands of the Pian di Spagna e Lago di Mezzola nature reserve are within the area. Lake Mezzola is immediately to the south. The nearest ski lifts are in the Valchiavenna side valleys and around Madesimo, roughly an hour's drive depending on the exact lift and winter conditions. Chiavenna is the nearest town of size, with a preserved historic centre, services and rail connections. The area is known for the corridor between Lake Como and the Spluga route into the Alps, chestnut groves on the valley sides, and stone villages in Valchiavenna.
