The Masino torrent runs through the valley and joins the Adda at the floor of Valtellina. Much of the area lies inside the Val Masino Regional Park, and immediately to the east is the granite mountain group of the Disgrazia and Bernina sector of the Alps; the Val di Mello reserve is within the commune and is known for its glacial valley and climbing boulders. The nearest lifts are the small ski area of Pescegallo in Valgerola, roughly an hour by road, while the larger Alta Valtellina ski areas are much farther and do not define the immediate setting. The nearest town of size is Morbegno in the Adda valley, with rail services, shops and everyday services. The area is known for alpinism, hiking and granite climbing.
