The Adda rises in this municipality and the valley floor is closely framed by conifer slopes and high passes. Much of the area falls within Stelvio National Park. The nearest ski lifts are at Bormio and Cima Piazzi-San Colombano, both a short drive away, with the larger Livigno ski area farther up the mountain road. Bormio is the nearest town of size and has full services, a historic centre and thermal baths. The area is known for alpine tourism, passes such as Cancano and Foscagno, and for access to the Stelvio and Livigno mountain districts.
