The Masino stream runs down the valley to the Adda at Ardenno. Much of the area falls within the Val di Mello Regional Reserve, and the upper valley is the access point for the Bagni di Masino and the high alpine basin below Monte Disgrazia, Pizzo Badile and Cima di Castello. The valley is known nationally among climbers and hikers for Val di Mello and for the granite walls and boulders of the Masino-Bregaglia range. The nearest town of size is Morbegno in the Valtellina, with rail services and the main valley services.
