The Adda river runs through this part of the valley. Grosio is known for the Rupe Magna rock engravings and for the Castello Vecchio and Castello Nuovo above the village. Tirano, the nearest larger town, has a full set of everyday services and is the terminus of the Bernina railway toward Switzerland. Bormio and its ski lifts are roughly 35–40 minutes away by road, and Aprica is also within similar driving time. This part of Valtellina is known for terraced vineyards on the sunnier slopes and for alpine valley agriculture.
