Location score 88/100The cluster is in the Julian Alps at the meeting area of the Val Canale and the upper Val Slizza. The Slizza/Gailitz river system runs through the area, and the Fusine Lakes are within about 8 km west of Tarvisio. Much of the surrounding landscape falls inside the Julijske Alpe / Alpi Giulie area, including the Fusine basin and the edge of the Julian Prealps Natural Park on the Italian side, with Triglav National Park immediately across the nearby Slovenian border. Ski lifts operate directly at Tarvisio on Monte Lussari and in the Camporosso sector, with the main access a few minutes from the town. Tarvisio itself is the main service centre of the upper valley, with rail links, border-road connections and everyday shops and services. Monte Lussari is known as a pilgrimage site and ski area, and the wider Tarvisio area is known for alpine forest, cross-border mountain tourism and the Fusine Lakes.
