The area is part of the mountain landscape of the Friulian Alps, with alpine pastures, forest and narrow valley settlements. The nearest ski lifts are on Monte Zoncolan above Ravascletto and Sutrio, about 20–30 minutes by road depending on the access point. Tolmezzo is the nearest town of size, with the main shops and services of Carnia. Sutrio is one of I Borghi più belli d'Italia. The area is known for mountain tourism, thermal waters at Arta Terme, and the Zoncolan climbs used in the Giro d'Italia.
