Monte Zoncolan and the surrounding Carnic ridges are within this landscape, with mountain roads leading toward the passes on the Austrian border. The nearest ski area is Ravascletto-Zoncolan, about 25–35 minutes by car depending on the hamlet. Tolmezzo is the nearest larger town, with hospitals, secondary schools and the main services of the upper Friuli valleys. This part of Carnia is known for alpine pastures, forestry and dispersed stone villages in narrow mountain valleys.
