The Tagliamento river is nearby to the west, and the area lies close to the transition from the pre-Alpine valleys to the higher Carnic and Friulian mountain country. The nearest ski lifts are the small Forni di Sopra area, roughly an hour away by mountain roads, and Piancavallo farther south at about a similar drive, so skiing is not part of the immediate landscape. Spilimbergo is the nearest substantial town, with services and a known historic centre; Maniago is also within normal reach and is known for knife-making. This part of Friuli is known for pre-Alpine valleys, mixed forest, stone villages and outdoor activities on the Tagliamento and its tributaries.
