The southern foothills of the Vicentine Prealps begin just north of Fara Vicentino, with Monte Summano and the Pasubio–Novegno mountain group forming the nearest mountain backdrop. The Astico valley is close by, and the upper valleys toward Arsiero and Posina lead into the Prealpine area. Thiene is the nearest town of size, with a full range of services, rail connections, and a substantial historic centre; Schio is also nearby and functions as another service town at the foot of the mountains. Marostica, a short drive to the southeast, is known for its walled hill town and chessboard piazza and is listed among I Borghi più belli d'Italia. This part of the province is known for a mix of foothill farmland, small industrial towns, and access routes into the Vicentine mountains.
