Lecco is the nearest provincial city of size, while the nearer service centres for ordinary shopping and rail access are Bellano, Colico and the upper eastern shore of Lake Como. The area is known for alpine pasture, chestnut and beech woods, and mountain villages above the east side of Lake Como.
