Prato Spilla, the nearest local ski area, is about 20–30 minutes by road from Monchio. Corniglio is the nearest small mountain centre with basic services, and Parma is the main city for higher-order services. This part of the Apennines is known for beech woods, pasture, reservoirs and access to hiking on the ridge toward the Tuscan-Emilian watershed.
