Avezzano is the nearest larger town, with rail links, hospitals and the main services for the Marsica area. Pescina nearby is known as the birthplace of Ignazio Silone and for the tower of its medieval centre. The area is known for irrigated agriculture on the reclaimed Fucino plain, especially vegetables and potatoes.
