The area is flat or gently undulating, with vineyards, olive groves and road-lined settlement rather than hill or mountain relief. Trapani is the nearest town of size, with a port, a full set of services and a historic centre. Marsala is also close, and this stretch of western Sicily is known for salt production and wine.
