Much of the surrounding high ground falls within the Parco Naturale Regionale dell’Antola on the Ligurian side, with the Antola area forming the main mountain backdrop. The nearest town of some size is Arquata Scrivia, which has rail services and the usual shops and services; Tortona is the larger centre for a fuller range of services. This area is known for wooded Apennine ridges, small high-valley hamlets and seasonal walking routes on the Piemonte-Liguria watershed.
