Mount Amiata rises to the northeast and is the main mountain mass seen in this part of southern Tuscany, but the ski lifts are on Amiata, roughly an hour away, so they are outside the immediate landscape. The wider area is known for tuff settlements, thermal waters, olive groves and inland Maremma countryside.
