The nearest substantial town is Borgo Val di Taro, which provides the main rail access and everyday services for the upper valleys; farther down-valley, Fornovo di Taro is the road and rail junction toward Parma. The area is known for chestnut woods, porcini mushrooms in the wider Val Taro-Ceno mountains, and small stone villages of the Apennine interior.
