Tindari is immediately west of Patti, on a headland above the sea, with the Laghetti di Marinello at the base of the promontory inside the Marinello lakes nature reserve. Patti has a cathedral and an old centre on the hill above the coast, while the larger service town in the area is Milazzo farther east for port links and wider services. The area is known for the Tindari sanctuary and Greek-Roman archaeological site, for the Marinello coastal landscape, and for olive groves and hazelnuts on the lower slopes toward the Nebrodi.
