Pollino National Park begins inland, and the first substantial mountain terrain rises within a short drive west of the coast. Rocca Imperiale itself is known for its medieval castle on the hill and is listed among I Borghi più belli d'Italia. The nearest larger centres for services are Policoro to the north and Corigliano-Rossano farther south on the Ionian corridor.
