Much of the surrounding mountain country falls within the Monti della Laga and Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park area to the north-east, and the reatine mountain system continues south toward Monte Terminillo. The nearest ski lifts are on Monte Terminillo, roughly 35–45 minutes by road depending on the access point. Rieti is the nearest town of size, with full services and a historic centre. The area is known as a passage between the Rieti basin and the Abruzzo interior, with gorges and narrow valley sections around Antrodoco.
