The Tirso valley lies nearby and the Nuraghe Santa Barbara stands just outside the town. Within about 15 km are the volcanic reliefs around Borore and Dualchi and the Nuragic complex of Tamuli at Macomer. Bosa is the nearest substantial historic town on the west side of the area, with services and a river port on the Temo, but it is beyond the immediate 15 km landscape. The area is known for sheep farming, trachyte and basalt landscapes, and a high density of prehistoric Nuragic sites.
