The nearest larger centres for services are Lauria and Castrovillari; for a wider range of shops and hospitals people also use the Tyrrhenian coast around Praia a Mare and Maratea. The area is known for mountain forests, hiking routes and the white aubergine of Rotonda, which has PGI status.
