The Riserva Naturale Statale Gola del Furlo (Furlo Gorge) and the Candigliano river are within a few kilometres north of the town, and the Roman-era Via Flaminia runs through the gorge. The landscape within about 15 km is river valley, small agricultural plots and wooded Apennine foothills. There are no ski lifts within 15 km; Apennine ski areas such as Monte Nerone and Monte Catria are further inland. The nearest cities of size are Pesaro on the Adriatic (regional train services, beaches, larger hospitals and services) and Urbino, a Renaissance hill town with a university and the Ducal Palace (Urbino's historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site). The area is known primarily for the Gola del Furlo nature reserve and the historical route of the Via Flaminia.
