On the Adriatic coast: sandy beaches and a seafront promenade with adjoining coastal pine woods lie at the town itself. The Tronto river mouth is immediately to the north, and the Tronto also marks the Abruzzo–Marche regional border here. No national park or UNESCO landscape lies within about 15 km. Nearest ski lifts are on the Gran Sasso massif, roughly 60–90 km inland (about an hour to an hour and a half by car). The nearest larger town is San Benedetto del Tronto (across the Tronto in Marche) with a railway station, marina and larger commercial and hospital services; other nearby Adriatic towns include Alba Adriatica, Tortoreto and Giulianova. Pescara and its airport are farther south (around 45–60 km) and Teramo, the provincial capital with wider services, is roughly 30 km inland. The area is noted locally for seasonal seaside tourism, bathing establishments and seafood fishing.
