Rustico in Sant'Omero

The cluster sits in the Val Vibrata (the Vibrata valley); the Torrente Vibrata crosses the valley. The local terrain is low, rolling hills of the eastern Abruzzo Apennines dropping eastwards to the Adriatic coastal plain. The Adriatic coast and bathing towns such as Giulianova and Tortoreto lie to the east; the Adriatic railway and the SS16/A14 transport corridor run along the coast. Agriculture around the town includes vineyards, olive groves and orchards. The Val Vibrata area contains small industrial towns and workshops (local specialisms include leather/footwear and light manufacturing). The provincial capital Teramo and the coastal towns provide hospitals, provincial administration and wider services. The Gran Sasso massif of the central Apennines is visible on the horizon to the west; its high-altitude protected areas are further inland.
