Rustico in Torricella Sicura

The cluster sits on the lower agricultural hills of Teramo province, in the Abruzzo interior where the land rises toward the Gran Sasso massif; the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park is the main protected area for the province, though the park's highest peaks lie further inland. The immediate landscape within about 15 km is a patchwork of farmland, olive groves and small hilltop villages. Teramo is the nearest town of size and provides shops, a railway connection, a provincial hospital and a university campus. The Adriatic coast (coastal towns such as Giulianova and Tortoreto) lies roughly 30 km to the east and is reachable for day trips. Nearest ski lifts are on the Gran Sasso massif (Campo Imperatore / Prati di Tivo), reached by about an hour's drive. The area is part of Abruzzo's interior economy of small-scale agriculture, olive oil and local wines.
