To the west, the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga massifs are the dominant mountain backdrop for the province, but they are outside the immediate 15 km landscape. Teramo is the nearest town of size, with a cathedral, Roman remains and the main services of the provincial capital. This part of northern Abruzzo is known for mixed hill farming, olive oil and access between coast and interior.
