It is inside the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park. The nearest ski area is Prati di Tivo on the eastern side of the massif, roughly 30–40 minutes by road. The nearest larger town is Teramo, which has the usual provincial services and a cathedral. Castelli is known nationally for ceramics, and the local church of San Donato is closely associated with that tradition.
