Nearest ski areas are the small lifts on Nevegal above Belluno, roughly a 35–45 minute drive, while the larger Dolomite resorts are farther and do not define the immediate surroundings. Belluno is the nearest town of size, with a full range of services and a historic centre. Mel, now part of Borgo Valbelluna, is one of I Borghi più belli d'Italia. The area is known for the transition from the Venetian foothills into the Belluno mountain valleys, with mixed woodland, pasture and small historic hill settlements.
