Much of the upper valley lies in the Parco delle Orobie Valtellinesi, and the high ground on the Swiss side connects with the Bernina massif. The Alpe Palù and Caspoggio ski areas are directly above the settlement, with lifts reached in minutes. Sondrio is the nearest town of size, with rail connections, services and the main facilities of the province. The valley is known for alpine scenery, stone villages, summer hiking and winter skiing.
