Tirano is the nearest town of size; it has rail connections including the Bernina line into Switzerland and the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Tirano. Teglio is known for terraced vineyards and for pizzoccheri, and the historic centre has palazzi and churches linked to the old Grisons route through the valley.
