Settlement pattern is small hilltop villages and scattered farmhouses rather than continuous built-up area. There is no national or regional park within about 15 km. The nearest larger town is Manciano a few kilometres to the south, which supplies shops, banks, municipal services and regular local markets. The Tyrrhenian coast and its beaches lie beyond the local hills and are not part of the immediate landscape.
