The nearest ski lifts are on Etna around Rifugio Sapienza, roughly an hour by road depending on conditions. Catania is the nearest large city, with the airport, port, university and major services. Adrano has a Norman castle and an old centre, and this side of Etna is known for lava landscapes, pistachios and other Etna foothill agriculture.
