The cluster sits in the inland hills between the Platani valley and the coast of the Strait of Sicily, in a landscape of clay and cultivated ridges typical of central Agrigento. The Platani River is the main watercourse in the area. Agrigento is the nearest city of size, with full services and the Valle dei Templi archaeological area. The coast near Porto Empedocle and the beaches west of Agrigento are outside the immediate radius and do not define the landscape here. This part of the province is known for cereals, olive groves and sulphur-mining country.
