The area lies in the flat to gently rolling plain between the lower Scrivia valley and the first hills around Novi Ligure and Tortona, with a landscape of fields, roads and scattered industry. The Scrivia river runs nearby. Novi Ligure is the nearest town of size, with rail links, services and a historic centre; Alessandria is the larger provincial city in the wider area. This part of southeast Piemonte is known for wine zones and hill country farther south around Gavi and the Colli Tortonesi, but those are outside the immediate surroundings.
