This is the Monferrato hill country, with vine-covered ridges, mixed fields and small valleys. The Po lies to the north within roughly this radius, and the wider area is associated with the wine landscapes of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato, a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape. Moncalvo is a small hill town with basic services; Casale Monferrato is the nearest larger town and has a substantial historic centre, rail connections and fuller day-to-day services. The area is known for wine, hazelnuts and white truffle country across the Asti-Casale hills.
